Our Family Resource Center
Our Family Resource Center Hub offers a variety of activities designed to support families. These include parenting workshops, fun activities for kids, support groups, exercise classes, and community events that everyone in the family can enjoy together. Monthly newsletter and events and activities are posted here.
Our Family Resource Center is community-based and located in East Sacramento County. We are part of the Birth & Beyond Family Resource Center network with funding provided by First 5 Sacramento, Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services, Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance and Sacramento Employment and Training Agency.
Community Events
We host free community events that help families discover valuable resources while having fun: quarterly Community Baby Shower, Love Bug Party, Movie Nights, Open Mic, Latinx. Two large scale events: Harvest Festival and Juneteenth. Here is video of last year’s Juneteenth.
Parenting Workshops
Our parenting workshops provide a safe space where parents can share their experiences and learn they are not alone in their journey. Parents who attend these workshops gain useful knowledge about positive discipline, show more empathy toward their children, and are less likely to use corporal punishment.
Make Parenting a Pleasure – This program gives parents a break from daily stresses while enhancing their parenting skills in a fun, engaging environment. Participants enjoy activities that reduce stress, boost communication, and build self-care habits, all while making new friends.
The Effective Black Parenting Program is a wonderful skill-building opportunity designed especially for parents of African-American children. Our goals are to celebrate cultural pride, reduce parental stress, strengthen family connections, help families cope with racism and prejudice, and promote a positive sense of identity.
Leadership and Peer Support
We see families as partners in our mission. Many parents take on leadership roles, sharing their passions with the community. For example, one Parent Leader teaches exercise classes promoting healthy lifestyles, while another runs a children's reading workshop.
PlayCare
During some of our workshops and events, we offer FREE PlayCare. It’s a place where children can socialize, learn appropriate classroom behavior, and interact with caring adults in a safe and fun
Highlight workshops: "Thursday Kickback"
Series for African American families. The program expanded to include diverse speakers such as a vegan chef, dance instructor, motivational speaker, martial arts instructor, children's book author, and librarian. Participants formed strong connections, even participating in a fashion show during the Juneteenth Celebration. One exciting workshop focused on healthy vegan cooking and juicing, introducing new experiences in vegan cuisine. Participants were amazed at how delicious the dishes were, with one noting they couldn't believe the "meat" was actually pecans! These workshops inspired many to make healthy lifestyle changes.
Our events and workshops are culturally responsive, serving families from various backgrounds. Our staff speaks Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Dari/Farsi, ensuring that we can connect with and support diverse communities effectively.

Family Resource Center Health Services
We are committed to prioritizing the health of our community by providing access to essential information and resources. Our offerings include access to Medical services, poison prevention, dental education and heat prevention safety plans to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.
One of our key initiatives is the Trusted Messenger Project, which aims to provide vital information to African American, Spanish, Dari, and Russian-speaking communities. This project has successfully bridged communication gaps and increased awareness about public health crises and emergencies, empowering these communities to make informed decisions during critical moments. Our outreach efforts focus on critical topics, including COVID-19 vaccines, harm reduction, water conservation, and extreme heat awareness.
Among our proudest achievements is leading Sacramento County's first COVID-19 testing site, where we served up to 500 individuals daily from underserved backgrounds. This experience deepened our understanding of the complexities of public health equity and reaffirmed the importance of community-based solutions, partnerships, and culturally responsive care. It positioned FCCP as a leading public health asset and contributed to the acquisition of additional grants.
Every month, we host a free Vaccine Clinic that is open to all community members, regardless of insurance status. We are dedicated to supporting individuals facing health and social inequities by offering culturally relevant resources in multiple languages. Our ultimate goal is to continue developing and expanding programs that address the root causes of health disparities. We strive to create systems that empower underserved communities, ensuring that health equity becomes a reality for all. Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to a more just and equitable public health landscape.
Mental Health
On January 16, 2024, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) launched two free online behavioral health services platforms that are available to all California children, youth, and young adults, regardless of insurance coverage or immigration status.
These web and app-based platforms offer free one-on-one support with live coaches, a library of multimedia resources, wellness exercises, and peer communities moderated by trained behavioral health professionals.
These platforms are a cornerstone of Governor Gavin Newsom’s Master Plan for Kids’ Mental Health and the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI).
Launched as part of the state's CalHOPE program, the platforms were designed with extensive input from more than 1,000 children, youth, families/caregivers, behavioral health professionals, and subject-matter experts.
• The two platforms are:
o Brightlife Kids is designed for parents or caregivers and kids ages 0-12.
o Soluna for teens and young adults ages 13-25.
• Both platforms offer:
o Live one-on-one sessions with qualified behavioral health coaches in English and Spanish.
o Telephone coaching in all 19 Medi-Cal threshold languages.
Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian, Chinese, English, Farsi, Korean, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Laotian, Mien, Punjabi, Spanish, Russian, Tagalog, Thai, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
o Age-tailored educational resources like articles, videos, podcasts, and stories.
o Stress-management tools and clinically validated assessments to understand and monitor behavioral health over time
o A searchable directory and live care navigation support to connect people to their local behavioral health resources, including their health plan, school-based services, or community-based organizations.
o Peer communities moderated by trained behavioral health professionals.
o Crisis and emergency safety resources for people experiencing a mental health crisis or who require immediate assistance.
o These platforms complement existing services offered by health plans, counties, and schools by providing additional care options and resources for parents and caregivers, children, youth, and young adults.
These apps are accessible, secure, and compliant with state privacy and safety regulations.
The apps follow robust safety and risk escalation protocols. Trained behavioral health professionals monitor app usage to identify potential risks, licensed behavioral health professionals are on standby to intervene if clinically appropriate, and they connect users to crisis or emergency services when needed.
BrightLife Kids and Soluna are both available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as well as on the web at CalHOPE.org.
To support mental health in the community, we're promoting Brightlife Kids and Soluna by educating families through workshops and community events. We emphasize these platforms' role in providing free, accessible mental health support for children, teens, and young adults. We're using social media to highlight the availability of one-on-one coaching, peer communities, and crisis resources in multiple languages. We’re also partnering with local schools and community organizations to connect people to these tools, offering direct assistance to those who need help accessing the platforms, and gathering feedback to continually improve our outreach strategies.
